Who would have thought that a young and extremely quiet and shy African American mother from Mississippi would end up in Georgia writing about female swinger bars, voyeurs, and an occasional 3:00 AM rendezvous? Fina, the pen name of Jackson’s native daughter and Columbus’s newest lesbian author, does this in her new book, You Think You Know.
Fina is a first time published author who says that writing this book was a challenge for her. As the daughter of a devout Christian and minister, Fina was apprehensive about writing a book dealing exclusively with lesbian erotica. However, she later stated that while she was concerned about the opinions and reactions of her family, particularly her mother, “it was time for me to do something for me and other women that live the same life I live.” Fina says that despite her mother’s religious views about her lifestyle, she never turned her back on her and supported her throughout many endeavors. Fina looks up to her mother and thinks of her mother as her “she-ro.”
Whenever Fina isn’t writing, she spends her time shopping, reading, and watching movies. As if that isn’t enough, Fina is also enrolled in nursing school where she is studying to become an RN. Fina currently lives in Columbus, Georgia with her three children. She is also the sole provider for an additional six children. Fina says that it has been difficult going to school, writing, and taking care of a full house. However, she credits her life partner for helping her stay focused on the things she wanted to accomplish.
