Each day is a gift to be opened with anticipation and joy. I don't want to lose the wonder and excitement I felt as a child on Christmas morning. Writing gives me that feeling every time I create something new.

Background Information

In 2003 I was faced with myriad life-changing issues and as a way of working through them, I started to write. I wrote and wrote, sometimes in the middle of the night, and 350 pages later my memoir was finished. It was complete with family photos that spanned several generations: those of my eight year old grandmother, one of my granddad on his police motorcycle in the1930s, a photo of my mother holding me, as an infant, photos from my wedding, those of our son and daughter, and lastly our precious grandsons.

I gifted my memoir, "Rose City and Beyond" to family members and close friends; their feedback was most rewarding. It generated a few chuckles and even a tear or two. Hopefully it will enlighten my children and grandchildren of the era I grew up in - a time before computers and cell phones. Since then, hardly a day has gone by that I haven't written something: a thought, a phrase, a page, a chapter, or a nugget for a poem.

To date I have written two memoirs: "Rose City and Beyond" and "Through the Tunnel of Love, A Mother's and Daughter's Journey with Anorexia," which was published in April 2011 and is available on I am currently writing short stories and working on my first novel based loosely on real-life experiences.

I owe my love of nature, books and the craft of writing to my late father. He was never too busy for me or my brother, and one of the many things he did for us was to make sure we visited the library every week. "Thanks, Dad, Through the Tunnel of Love is dedicated to you."

Birth Place
Portland, OR USA

Always in love with literature of any and all genres, I earned a BS in Arts & Letters from Portland State University. I belong to Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Oregon Writers Colony, Write on The River, and Rivers of Ink. Since 2004, I have been a finalist 4 times in PNWA's Literary Contest in the Memoir. I placed second in OWC's 2012 literary contest in Memoir. I am a freelance writer and editor, and compose poetry.

Additional Information

I cherish time with our expanding family, enjoy the rugged mountains and God's beautiful creatures at our vacation home in Central Oregon, and like nothing better than getting lost in a good bookstore. I take my laptop and notebook everywhere so I don't miss an opportunity to jot down a thought or a poem that pops into my mind - often unexpectedly. I see life as an amazing journey; full of drama, adventure and plenty of surprises. The key to finding fulfillment is to not quit when roadblocks pop up; when they do, have the courage to knock them down. Over the years I have learned to take chances and step outside my comfort zone - so far that philosophy has paid off in more ways than I can list. Becoming a writer has opened up the universe to me. It freed my soul and enabled me to make new friends and learn from those who have blazed the literary trail. I encourage everyone to follow their dreams, whatever they may be.
