As a teenager in the mid sixties trying to avoid the temptations and traps of the streets of Detroit’s intercity was a difficult feat. Having very few, if any ‘role models’ to exemplify my life after, I, like many other kids of my time, mimicked what we had…Pimps, hustlers and other neon lit characters.
My mother has always been an honest hard working spiritual woman, but with eight other kids to raise, it was a mission impossible to keep me on the straight and narrow. The magnetic pull of the streets was just too strong.
Drifting in and out of one unlawful endeavor after another, my life was in a downward spiral until I married and fathered my first child. Now faced with responsibilities, my life took on a new meaning. I decided to turn my back on the street life and square-up. I was hired by General Motors, where I worked until my physical health dictated that I retire.
Upon my retirement from the plant in the eighties, I have taken on the role of entrepreneur, owning and operating various businesses in and around Detroit. Some of which included a party store, a restaurant, a video rental store, and a cell phone store.
When my children were small, I developed a habit of creating imaginary characters and situations, so to me it was a natural transition to incorporate this ability with my passion for reading into creative writing.
I have taken several creative writing courses and have won several creative writing awards, including the prestigious “No Limit” creative writing award.
The book titled “He She Black Widow” is the first novel of what I hope will be many more to come. You, the reading public, will be the sole judge of that.
