I write horror because reality is too scary.

Background Information

Even as a young child I had a vivid imagination, and a burning desire to know what is possible, what isn't, and why.  In high school I majored in art and science, art because the beauty in the world touched my heart, and science because I wanted to understand why a sunset contained every color of red, oranges, yellows and purples but the hours between sunrise and sunset didn't.  I wanted to know why certain flowers were pink, but others were purple.  My mother bought me my first Little Golden books, THE POKEY LITTLE PUPPY, and THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD, when I was a toddler, and I've had a book in my hands ever since.  In 1979 I was reading a particularlly good book, it was interesting, thrilling, exciting . . . until the end, it was the worst ending I'd probably ever read.  Disappointed and angry. I ranted and raved to an empty house, then suddenly an idea hit me in the face, I would write my own stories, then if I didn't like the ending I had no one to blame but myself.  I've been writing ever since,  As the years passed I wrote strictly for my family and friends, then the local newspaper had an ad for local authors to submit a short story for publication.  Had it not been for my family I never would have submitted JENNIFER, but they were relentless.  Embarrassed, and knowing I was going to get a letter back stating how I'd wasted their time with my drivel I waited for a reply.  A week or so later the letter came, amazed I read and reread the enclose letter, I stared in wonder and shock at the enclosed check, HOW ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, someone actually paid me money for something I created in my mind!  WOW, I was on cloud nine, and have been hooked ever since.  I still write for myself, and rarely enter contests or try to get anything published, but I did sell JENNIFER a second time, I entered THE HOME (a short-short) in a contest and won 2nd place, and I did publish a novel, DEMON'S SORROW.  I recently finished another novel, RACHEL'S SONG and am aggressively seeking an agent.  When the world gets me down I create a world that raises me back up.

The Quill's writers contest, 1997, second place for THE HOME
