I Love to Burst Your Bubble

If you’ve seen thousands of bubbles trailing a brightly colored truck rolling down the streets of New Albany, you’ve seen The Bubble Truck. Sonny Fenwick converted his pickup truck to an art car by painting it yellow, red, and blue, and mounting bubble-making apparatus onto it. He had been making copper and brass bubble wands for about a year before that.

“It really started after I saw kids having a blast making bubbles,” says the New Albany native. “Kids never get tired of bubbles.”

Fenwick – or Bubble Man, as children call him – is a favorite at birthday and graduation parties, church gatherings, libraries, parades, art car shows, preschools, family reunions – any place, really, where there are kids.

“I’ll turn on the bubbles when I stop at a store, and there will be a group of kids laughing by my truck when I come back out,” he says. Parents take photos while their kids enjoy making – and breaking – bubbles. The big payoff for Fenwick is a hug from a kid at a party, and being remembered afterwards. He joined a parade honoring National Guard troops returning from Afghanistan. He was partnered with a solider who brought along his kids who couldn’t get enough of The Bubble Truck.

The Bubble Truck has been making people smile since 2004 but now there’s an addition to the fun. Fenwick has written a children’s book, The Bubble Truck Goes to the Moon. It’s the first in a series of fantastic trips The Bubble Truck will make.
