El Peezy was raised on the north side of Chicago in the area called Uptown. His mother, half-creole and half-cherokee, was a visual artist and tarot card reader. His father was a sometimes magician , sometimes occult scientist, half-egyptian, half-jamaican. It was El Peezy's older brother Valentino though, a pimp and con man, who took care of him for most of his life in the streets of Chicago.

El Peezy is influenced by all urban fiction , starting with the works of Chester Himes , Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim, but not excluding James Baldwin, Richard Wright and Alex Haley. he is also an avid reader of Octavia Butler. These writers' style along with his own experiences and erotic knowledge influence his works.
He also studies sensual eastern texts of all types, from the Kama Sutra to Sufist works to the occult speculations of the acclaimed occultist Aleister Crowley, specifically his work on Sex Magick.
