A retired USAF Lt.Col with a BBS from Texas A&M University and a MA from The University of Texas at Dallas.. After completion of pilot training served in various flying and staff positions throughout the world. Flew the F-86 Sabre, F-94 Starfighter, F-89 Scorpion, and the B-57 Canberra. While stationed in Vietnam in 1968, flew 165 combat missions in the Canberra. It was while stationed in Japan and the Philippine Islands that he developed a keen interest in WWII in the Pacific, and in particular The Bataan Death March, arguably the worst atrocity ever comitted against the American fighting man. Even though In The Shadow of Death is a work of fiction, the depictions of the Death March are accurate in their gory detail. WWII events in Europe have always received the majority of attention in books and movies, while many know little of the treatment of American POW's at the hands of the Japanese. Hopefully this book will make more Americans aware of these events.
