My New Year's resolution for 2009 is to get published. Along the way I hope to write about the whole process as I'm sure it will be long and arduous (or so I've been told)! I've been writing (journal writing and poetry) ever since I was a teenager. While I still enjoy writing both, I have branched out and started writing Children's books - one is completed and the other two are on their way. Being that I have no formal education or training in the world of writing I am constantly researching, reading and learning the do's and don'ts of the book-writing world. It's a bit daunting but at the same time it is indeed, exciting.
My life experience has been my biggest motivator for all of my writings. As a teenager my poetry was pulled from my journal entries and my journal entries were pulled from everyday occurances. My poetry was a window that gave people access and the ability to learn a little bit more (and sometimes a lot more) about me. And as my life has changed and grown, so has my writing. My interest in children's writing was always there - I started my first children's book years ago but I didn't really give it the attention it deserved until I myself, had children. Now I have more motivation than ever to really take the time to strengthen my knowledge, strengthen my writing skills and strengthen my will to accomplish a life-long goal of mine.
Another extremely important motivator for me is my dad. Though he is no longer with me, his heart and drive and hope burns inside of me and I am determined to make him proud and see to it that one of his very own dreams (for his baby daughter) is reached. His passing has also made me pick up the pen (or sit at the computer) and jot down a plethora of thoughts, memories, moments, all of which make a fantastic story, one that I truly wish to share - be it by writing articles, blogs or maybe possibly, another book. We shall see.
