I was forty years old before my life finally leveled out. Now I am in my 60's – though I am told repeatedly I look too young to be that old or to have seven grandkids. I love it! Especially when I read that stress prematurely ages a woman.
Background
Information
Darkness Overturned is my autobiography about my efforts to break free from verbal, emotional and physical abuse, which I endured from early childhood and through several tragic marriages. I was forty years old before my life finally leveled out. Now I am 66 – though I am told repeatedly I look too young to be that old or to have six grandkids. I love it! Especially when I read that stress prematurely ages a woman.
Those who are still captives of abuse, or who are in recovery, need to know that they do not need to continue to relive their pain or carry their story consciously with them forever. Though intrinsically a part of them, they are free to unbuckle their seatbelts and move about life uninhibited. My life is living proof that the seemingly impenetrable darkness and subsequent hopelessness that may surround one’s life can give way to hope, freedom, joy, spontaneity, achievement and peace.
I believe that every woman contains an enduring spark of the wisdom at the heart of all creation. Even when she is isolated and unsupported, her spark remains, relentless. When united with other women, her ember bursts into a vibrant flame of illumination and strength. Consequently, I have started a blog, CiCi’s Garden – a safe place for women in which I invite othersto join an ongoing conversationwhere we are free to explore how to work through the residual effects women often experience as a result of being a survivor of domestic violence – or any other trauma or loss – even years after her life has become “normal”.

Accomplishments
My book was originally titled Light Through The Dark Glass under the pen name EsthersChild and won an Angel Award in 1990. It went out-of-print many years ago but, because of the many requests from friends and readers, I resurrected it as Darkness Overturned, still using my pen name but also adding my real life name, Patricia Struntz.
