One of the activities that I enjoy in Upper Michigan is picking wild berries. I have expressed my enjoyment of thimbleberries in this poem.
August Treasure
Ripe in August
Along creek beds,
Rambling into forest
Bright red jewels
Peeping from a maze of leaves
Berries for a fingertip
It’s an adventure
To find the wild bushes,
Reach for beckoning berries
One berry at a time
To fill a cup,
And then another
It’s an urgent task
Cleaning berries that seem to melt
To make a jar of jam
Thimbleberry jam
August treasure saved
For a winter brunch
