THE BALLAD OF THE DULLAHAN song lyrics
by Joel Sattler

the Dullahan is riding
come to raise the dead
the Dullahan is riding
carrying his head
some call him Gan Ceann
some call him The Dark Man
but let me tell you brother
escape him if you can

he stalks the lonely empty roads
the Irish countryside
and no one can stand up to him
regardless of your pride

under his arm he holds his skull
and drinks the night like wine
and carries in his boney hand
a whip made from a spine

he rides a horse blacker than black
or else a carriage six
and turns the road itself aflame
sets fire to the bricks

and when he's loose before the dawn
no one dare leave their home
and if you face the Dullahan
you face him all alone

but you will ne'er sneak up on him
and take him by surprise
cause if he sees you watching him
he'll lash out both your eyes

the only thing that he doth fear
is the sight of gold
so wear a golden helmet dear
if you dare be so bold

for I myself have seen Dark Man
at last and in the weird
I threw at him my wedding band
and he just disappeared

the Dullahan is riding
come to raise the dead
the Dullahan is riding
carrying his head
some call him Gan Ceann
some call him The Dark Man
but let me tell you brother
escape him if you can

The Irish seem to be very creative with myth and song. I think the Irish whiskey has a lot to do with it.
