it was strange

This is a strange one

it was strange
first the pain them the light
then the old lights fading stern as
my vessel settles down on his wind.

this day is glorious
the first day of eternity
eternally perfect day
of sun and sea and sail

my boat seems new launched.
as if this is the first spray
that ever danced on the
cedar deck but she is

the same old well loved
slightly brittle sloop that
I have sailed four seven decades
yet as I handle the tiller and the sheet

I see that both have been spliced…
spliced by such an expert hand that
I cannot see old wood and hemp
begin or end. I haul up the jib.

the fore sail cracks, fills
and settles down as the boat
accelerates past her usual
eight knots. I relax a bit

setting the sky’s brightest star
just above the bowsprit’s end
racing across the endless eternal
sea driven by the eternal wind

...IT WAS NEVER YOU...IT'S ALWAYS BEEN 'HIM' AND NOW THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO ACCEPT THAT..YOU CAN RELAX AND LET THE 'CAPTAIN' DO WHAT HE EXCELLS AT...STEER THE BOAT. BEAUTIFUL WORK! ENJOYED AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
