Poised with pen
Breathing deeply
Wanting yet grateful
Having filled my mind with words of others
Their studies, their stories.
I wait for my voice
The one that I hear in my ears
The words I see in my mind’s eye
The sentiments that come from my heart
While hoping for a glimpse of my soul.
Conscious, non-conscious, subconscious
Names of parts that can’t be seen
But because of the power of machines
Of brain scans, images of lights
In our deepest parts going on and off
Detecting thoughts, emotions, and feelings
I, as a human, get to contemplate the awesome,
The magnificence of the universe ‘out there’
As well as the often stupefying universe of ‘in here’
Where I am.
