I met Ed in my Grief Share class about three years ago after his wife died. Ten of us continued on and started a Bible Study group we attended weekly. We remembered Ed on his birthday's and at Christmas I took him gifts and Christmas dinner. He had no immediate family here. He recently went into hospice care and died at the age of 93. I wrote the poem in memory of him, as he touched our lives in many ways!

Alone in his sorrow, after his wife suddenly died,no one was with him as he cried and cried.

Ed had no one who loved him.
He had no one who really cared.
There was no one to wipe away his tears, because no one was ever there.

He had no children and very few kin,
so Ed joined our Grief Share Group and was welcomed in.
He became an important part of our special group who humbly shared their feelings and comforted him.
At last Ed had some people
who really showed they cared.
He called them his family and was so happy all were there.

Now Ed has gone to God's Heavenly home.
Never again will he be alone!
He'll spend eternity in that wonderful place, wrapped in the arms of our Lord's amazing grace.

Beautiful, Mary Grace. You did your part and offered God's love to a lonely person. God bless you for caring.

All of you were angels to step in on Ed's behalf. Growing old can mean losing your friends and family to death. New friends have been made. My mother told me that when she attended my great aunt's funeral at 96, only three attended. Her two children were dead.

I befriended and helped mow the lawn of a 93-year-old neighbor. Herbert Morrison of Hindenburg fame (I wrote an article about him here) at 73 bought his groceries and delivered his mail. He never married and I suspected that he was gay like his dead brother. A young man that he took in and supported who became a coal miner with a large family, had abandoned him. When he tried to explain to his niece, the inheritance used to give her, she was uninterested. Unfortunately, I had to leave West Virginia a year later. I hope he had support from our small community after that.

This one reminds me od the movie I have reviewed, it was called, "A Simple Life" played by Chinese actor, Andy Lau, and Chinese actress, Deanie Ip. The movie was about young man helping his long time family maid to adjust to a new life in a nursing home where she found many new friends who are like a family to her. The movie has won Deanie Ip best actress award in Germany film festival. Yes, there are a lot of people like Deanie Ip in real life. I'm so glad your friend Ed has found his "family" as well before he left to go back home to God.

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful friend! Ed must be so happy now!

A touching and meaningful poem, Mary Grace; so good that Ed found a family before his leaving here. Love and blessings to you,

Regis
