For A Great Dad

This poem was written as a gift for my step-father on "Father's Day". He is now deceased but was very deserving of this poem, unlike so many dead-beats today.

This is for my father and a great dad
The best dad a child could ever have
He's been my role model in so many ways
Now I stand strong in the face of dismay

If there were a problem we couldn't seem to solve
Somehow, someway, Dad would get it done
Mom never worried about very much
"Cause she knew Dad would be there for us

Like a real man should provide for his own
He worked for a living and brought the bread home
Not a day can I recall ever being in need
For God, through a good man, provided for me

I could never pay him back for all he has done
For beating the odds and never leaving us alone
If I could, I would grant his greatest wish
For being the great dad he really is

Very nice Johnnie! Sometimes, words on paper means a lot to us in assurance of our love for our parents. You have done a wonderful job here.

I have also written a lot of things about my Dad too, after he had passed away almost 1-1/2 years ago. The pain of loss is still with me, but I know my Dad is in heaven looking down watching over me.

...and so is your Dad who's now watching over you.

Wonderful write, Johnnie!
