The Beauty In The Tree
Evelyn Norris
I saw it standing on a hill
Not a pretty sight,
No flowers bloomed upon the limbs,
No fragrance in the night.
Slashes on a trunk made bare
Marks of the trade,
Bore testimony to the crowd
Where the deal was made.
I saw it standing on a hill
Stark against the sky,
The moon and sun refused to shine
Until that day went by.
How long does it take to save the world
From satan's greedy grasp,
He who said he had bested God
Was taken much to task.
In three days his fate was sealed
By a stone that rolled away,
Allowed the Master to come forth
As conqueror held sin at bay.
I turned once more to gaze upon
An ugly scene displayed,
Instead I saw a crimson flood
A tree in love arrayed.
I saw a shing fce of love
A hand reached out to me,
And at last I realized
The Beauty in the tree.
