Mommy, Please Don’t Go
It seemed to take forever
Before I saw her in my dreams
I prayed and waited…waited and prayed
Each night that I would
Once again see her smiling face!
Then one night in a dream she was there
Sitting at the dining table
With my siblings and I;
She was wearing a pink armless dress
With a white T-shirt beneath;
A floral scarf tied
Ever so pretty upon her head;
She was smiling ever so gently…as if all was well!
Then when our meal was over
She rose, heading for the door, as if to leave;
When she reached for the doorknob
I called: “Mommy…please don’t go!”
Thereupon she stopped, her back to us,
Her hand hovering over the knob;
Slowly she turned…smiled…but
If she left, I do not know…
For the next instant
I awoke!
