Poems about the beauty of nature

THE LEAVES OF OCTOBER

Oh, I want to dance with the leaves of October
That merrily twirl in the air,
To blend with the yellow, the reds, and the golds of them.
To dance in the wind without care.
And I want to run in the warm Autumn sun,
Skip under the azure blue sky,
To drift with the breeze among billowing leaves,
Rejoicing that I am alive.

So let me forget the cold chill of November
While October still is with me.
Too soon come the rains and the long, dreary winter nights,
Too quickly laid barren the trees.
So, I want to dance with the leaves of October
Before summer's warmth must depart.
Lord, let me lay hold of their red, brown, green, gold
And treasure their dance in my heart.

NOVEMBER NOSTALGIA

The last golden leaves
Fell from the trees
And blew in the breeze
The colors so bright,
Multi-hued delight.
Autumn took a wrong turn;
Colors we rarely see
In Tennessee -
How the hillsides burn!
New England's bright edge
Seen in each tree and hedge,
And bronze pumpkin sedge.
Still the colors remain -
A luminous stain
Until the next rain.
As each autumn returns
I know I will yearn
For sights such as these:
Crimson, scarlet reds,
Seen in each tree and hedge,
How it pierces my heart -
God's glorious art!
'Til the last golden leaves
Fall from the trees,
And their beauty departs.

THERE IS NO GOD

"There is no God," he claimed, and all creation disagreed.
Thunder shouted His name, wind whispered of His every deed.
But he could only hear the void between ears left and right.
He couldn’t read what the stars wrote; he saw only the night.

“Perhaps God has removed Himself,” he said as God stood near.
The stones cried out to greet Him, but the man refused to hear.
The hills sang while the trees danced, worshipping in green array.
God opened wide His arms; the man closed his eyes, turned away.

"Perhaps God died eons ago,” he smirked as angels sighed.
"Perhaps the whole myth ended on the day that Jesus died."
The birds ignored him as they raised their songs of praises high,
The flowers waved, the grasses bowed, the Living God passed by.

SUSPENDED

Suspended in air
in mid bounce,
It followed me home
through the hills,
Zig-zagging across
with each curve,
Bouncing back and forth
with every turn,
Leaving snail tracks of gold
on the ground,
Shimmer traces of rose
in the road,
As
the
sun
slowly
went
down
