"Before you speak, it is necessary for you to listen,
for God speaks in the silence of the heart."
                                                         Mother Teresa, 1910-1997

                        Mother Teresa
                                                                                (Reading by Richard Lee Orey)

In dark of night, before sunrise,

God breathed life into her soul,

And the Angel of Mercy began her work

                                                                                To love and to console.

                                                                                From Ireland to India,

                                                                                Her work remained the same:

Love and care for all the weak

                                                                                To glorify His name.

                                                                                ’Twas the Angel of Calcutta,

Her name as known by some,

                                                                                And Missionaries of Charity

                                                                                Her work would soon become.

                                                                                It wasn’t about the feeling,

                                                                                But more about her will.

                                                                                In service to the destitute,

                                                                                His work she would fulfill.

Whether poor or sick or dying

Or a child of city slum,

Her fire of love burned constantly,

                                                                                Her faith would not succumb.

                                                                                In blue-bordered sari and sandals,

                                                                                Compassion and mercy undone,

The bride of Jesus worked endlessly,

As caring and love was won.

“Come be My Light,” He’d told her,

“Into the holes of the poor.

                                                                                Give them love and dignity

                                                                                Until you are no more.”

Our Mother Teresa is gone, now,

                                                                                Her lifeless body dead.

She showed us faith and dedication,

                                                                                With sainthood just ahead.

                                                                                God’s loving example prepared us,

                                                                                Our future holds no dread,

For in doing His will as He has asked

                                                                                Our heaven is just ahead.

For in doing His will as He has asked,

                                                                                Our heaven is just ahead.

What a lovely tribute to one who showed us what it is to give, to love and to serve. Touched my heart.
ps. re: your notation. I've always understood it to demonstrate the depth of despair Christ experienced on the cross, as if dieing wasn't enough, but to be separated from his Father for the first time was to experience the weight of the world's sin upon his body and mind. In addition, God is not able to look upon sin, only the sinner, and especially the sinner saved by grace.

Mother Teresa saw (and lived among) the dregs of humanity--helping, feeding, nursing, giving hope wherever there was none. That is where her saintliness lay: hers was a life not caught up in the spotlight of beauty, rather she delved by choice into dark, filthy, lice-ridden, unimaginable places with no beauty at all. And there she thrived, a symbol of what is really beautiful about being human.
Thank you, Richard, for this beautiful tribute to a special woman.

Nothing like reading and remembering the raw truth and true meaning of life. Takes you out of your self absorbed pity-party world to think to yourself that our suffering is so small compared to the sufferings of others. It truly is better to give than receive without ever expecting anything in return. Thanks for this daily grounding. Deborah:)

Dear Richard, your poem expresses your feelings and your understanding of her life.
God gave us three wonderful tools:
1.The power of creation. We can project and create whatever we want to fulfill the creation we received
2. The power of love and the will to maintain and complete whatever we have created
3. The faith in our heart .
Those three powers, God has given to Mother Theresa. The more you fulfill the more you will receive without interruption.
Your poem is holy, and keep it in your heart. Congratulations, I believe that I don’t have to say more. You understand in your heart what I mean. Love Emile

Richard thank you for this most glorious well deserved tribute to Mother Teresa! She is a saint and her doubt proves how very close to God she was,and is!We believers know that the closer we come to Creator the more Satan tries to stop us. He is the one who sows doubt into us and it only gets more intense ,the more we do to honor God.That is the answer to her writings of doubt, and the most holy people throughout the Bible have it too. Your poem is outstanding! Bless you!

A beauiful poem for a beautiful person.
Her memory is being undermined now because of the things she wrote about her faith, or lack of it.
Many of God's children have questioned Him. What about Job, who was thrown for a loop by his terrible calamities?

David wrote some of the psalms questioning God. God values sincerity, and wants truth from His followers.

Those who follow the Lord are also under greater attack by Satan and his cohorts, who try to fill the mind with doubts. One who gives her all is a handy target, especially if she is hungry and overworked, which is how I picture Mother Teresa.

It's too bad that the media try to undermine her value because she questioned God.

God knew her heart and heard her prayers.

An excellent poetic tribute to a fine soul ...

Incidentally ... I read this week, Richard, that Mother Teresa struggled with her faith in God. I was shaken by these confessions found in her notes and memoirs. Apparently it began when she began her work in Calcutta. And apparently, according to her own words, the peaceful presense of Gods Holy Spirit never came back. I found this perplexing to say the least.

Blessings ...
