For Stacey
by Deborah Clark Ebel

Thursday, July 12, 2007
Rated "PG13" by the Author.

As a registered nurse working with adolescents with mental health issues, I wrote this poem, my first and only, while monitoring a teenage girl who was in four-point restraints in our close observation unit. She had been sexually abused by her father for many years.

In darkened room with shadows cast,

          she sleeps, perchance to dream,

But sleep protects her not tonight

          in dim light’s lonely beam.

The gloomy darkness follows her

          from phantoms c’not flee,

A living lost, a childhood gone,

          more torment yet to be.

Horror long hid within the heart

bursts forth with cries of pain.

A silent fog enshrouds…

Unintelligible. Unrepeatable. Unspeakable.

A powerful piece... you should write more...
Wishing you well...

Very well written! A sad truth for too many children these days and a subject that needs a voice.

Stay well and keep writing.
