Sunset Prayers
………………………………………………………………………………
I suppose some would consider it progress,
Or walking out from a dark forest…in a sense,
After wandering lost for what seemed like
an eternity,
Where waiting and wondering when the
promises of love…
Would materialize as you had led my ever
loyal and devoted heart…
To believe.
It occurred to me today…
While the roar of tires on pavement,
Hummed an all too familiar tune on
the road that leads home…
That you had only crossed my mine once,
In the midst of laborious effort that assaulted
my worn and tattered body.
Soon to follow was a brief ride upon an
emotional rollercoaster…
Swirling, hidden inside a heart still healing.
A fleeting sense of joy and need of celebration…
For the realization of how you and never-to-be’s,
Had not walked my mind’s path for almost a day…
Before I found myself battling the warrior of sadness.
Memories of time spent with you,
Like crumbled pages torn from a journal,
Lie on the floor…tossed but no forgotten…
Yet to be burned in a fire kindled for broken dreams.
Logs split by deception are slow to burn.
Setting sun cast its orange hews upon
my humble abode,
Black-boy greeted me with tail wagging
and howls of excitement…
Reminding me how unconditional love…
Truly is alive and are not just words spoken.
I felt my faith and hopes for love restored
between heartbeats of sunset.
Her dark hair, submissive to autumn wind,
Flowed and covered most of her face…
But could not hide the illumination of happiness,
That poured from her eyes when they found me
walking to greet her waiting arms…
As I whispered a silent prayer ;
“God please send the darkness into the night…
And let me bask in the light of true love”.
