Elusive Thread

Begin again
to weave the labyrinth,
spun a hundred-thousand times and more,
season to season,
begun in the dark-bound ice
of midwinter’s turning.
But instead
of quiet blindness
and the endless trudging of false pride,
Begin inside,
Reach down the murky, muddled swells
Of dreams and memories and questions.
Take nothing but curiosity
in search of more
than ideals that quickly rust in rain
like shattered swords.

Begin again
To weave the labyrinth,
Gather together
the tatters of broken darkness.
When the sparking flame
Of midwinter’s depth returns,
illuminate the rhythm of daydreams,
Show all realities that lie inside.
Then pace from uncertainty into sureness,
Reach upward, unfurl the dance
Woven into the highland meadow
for another hundred-thousand times and more…
Grasp hold…
Do not let go…
of that elusive thread called peace.

Yes, we have to always strive for peace and hope that one day we will begin again for the last time. I see the images of the starting over again and again in "begun in the dark-bound ice of midwinters turning", and "the tatters of broken darkness. When the sparking flame ... returns." I see these lines offering hope that maybe peace will arrive if "we" do not give up striving for it.

Your poem was very thought grabbing to me. I sensed a creepily delicious flow in your poem and as a writer in a style of lovecraft, I enjoyed this very much. Good wording, good work.

Huh.. what a metaphor! Peace has woven our civilizations. If peace is dead, civilization is just a shroud.
A great work Kath
