Lost, lost in
endless spirals, a black abyss
this city is a maze,
a labyrinth of misplaced dreams,
irretrievable hope
Street lamps burn in the night
Burn, burn my soul
into ashes
Clouded, clouded by
heartless smiles, casual hellos
a metropolis of strangers,
a horde of listless wanderers,
walking statues
Broadway tunes echo across avenues
Echo, echo the lyrics of loneliness
too soon played out
Pushed, pushed to
brinks of sanity, dark obsessions
an asylum for the bizarre,
Subway trains tear on iron tracks
Tear, tear on icy hearts
hardened by deliriums
City life for the tragic
– a poem by CSU & MJC, City Life
