Politics doesn't matter right now.

I saw my President weep.

Now, what and how do I explain to my little 6 year olds?

I weep and am sure I will weep come Monday.

I saw my President weep.

First Grade Teacher

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank You all for your comments, and support, after so many years in the classroom I have had to explain how a rocket to the moon can crash, how a school here or there can be attcked, Arkansas for one, how a tsunami can happen, and why a beloved grandparent can die from cancer, but, I have never faced having to explain that there are people in this world who will target children the age I teach.
I so appreciate your support and reassurances, and I too am happy that President Obama spoke as a parent as so many of us are as well. He was right, across the nation parents were in sorrow and thinking of their own children too.
My son is a teacher and was attacked by a student who said that he gave him a bad grade.........my son tried to explain to the parents who came in to see him ranting and raving that their son was being "picked on" and wouldn't listen to the fact that their son had earned the grade he was given. The next day my son walked into his classroom and luckily is a big guy. This student was hiding behind the door with a chair raised over his head meaning to strike my son. God bless and be with you teachers!!! God bless the children! 'Tis truly sad what happened in Connecticut........truly sad!!
Love ya!
I am an educator. I have no words that will make any sense. I did see your president weep. I send you love and best wishes.
Molly, you magically have the ability to stir people. Come Monday you'll know the right words to say.
Love you bunches,
It's hard to get ones head around what happened. He wasn't the president as he spoke, he was another horrified parent. God bless you with wisdom and words Monday with your wee ones ...
Crying is such a natural thing...and there is nothing wrong with it. What happened yesterday was enough to bring a nation to tears...I'm glad my president shed tears with us.
Peace,
