She Sings with Angels

Written of a friend who was murdered.

She sang for the church
With the voice of an angel
He served close at my side
My sister, My brother. A couple, My friends
They were loved by all

He was weak and passive
Her will grew adventurous and strong
When she stepped out of line
He stepped to the side
"She's good deep down," he'd say
Then he'd crawl into a corner

I tried to step in
"Man up!" I warned him
"Trouble will come!"
I was told to step out
Things weren't as they appeared
It was all a big misunderstanding

She sang for the church
With the voice of an angel
He served close at my side
My sister, My brother. A couple, My friends
They were loved by all

She fell out of the pew and onto a barstool
Where she sang for beer and for wine
Fella's noticed alright
And one got lucky
She sang for him that night.
All night long

She fell from the barstool into his bedroom
But things weren't as they appeared
This according to her husband
It was all a big misunderstanding
"Man up!" he was warned.
"More trouble will come!"

She bid farewell to her husband
And to her son and daughter
She left all that was familiar
To dwell with a stranger
She shared barstools with her lover
And a very cold bed

She sang for the church
With the voice of an angel
He served close at my side
My sister, My brother. A couple, My friends
They were loved by all

He believed she would come back
Things weren't as they appeared
It was all a big misunderstanding
He never did man up
No, he never took a stand
Time just dragged on

Some say she tried to escape him
That she would have returned home
Then? BANG? BANG?
The first bullet in her head
The second shot in his
They never made it out of bed

The police came to him
Then he came to me
Together we cried for hours
I never held a man for so long
But I couldn't let go of him
And he wouldn't let go of me

Mary Jane returned to the church
She came in a big brown box
"She's good deep down," he said
"As good as one can be!"

Together we sang for the church
With the one who now sings for angels

How beautifully flowing and how sad, yet you reach out and try to understand....

Be always safe,
Karen
