Carry Me On

Oh carry me on to another place and time,

take from me this painful burden of mine,

lift me up Lord to a higher plateau

that I may at last find your peace to truly know.

For I am tired of body and weary of mind

My soul grows weak and am so tired of trying,

For I see nothing but the darkness surrounding me,

And I feel the pain of my shallow attempts at being free.

For I moan within to this silent self,

As others, in dire straits, I try to help,

All the while forsaking my own needs,

I still fall short in getting them free.

For

I am worn,

And forlorn,

With ravaged heart torn…

Yet, even still in this…I continue to hold on,

Even though…I have seen a glimpse of the final curtain drawn,

So carry me on, and show me the way,

that I may soon see the light of another day.

For I am too tired to carry on….

So you Lord, carry me on,

Oh carry me on…

And renew my faith,

That I may at last find my way….

Oh carry me on….

This is strong in testimony to life and it's path and the footfalls toward revelation of self. Your deep spirit calls and your poetry gives us answers. Thanks for allowing me to read this today.
Susan...I needed this.

Allen....This truly enthralling and uplifting verse...

A towering confession of faith , weakness , mercy and adulation to the Alpha and the Omega .

" So long thy Power has sustained , sure it will still lead me on "

Cardinal Newman " Lead Kindly Light "

" Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom, lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home; lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.

I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till the night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile, which I
Have loved long since, and lost awhile!

Meantime, along the narrow rugged path, Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith, home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life. 2

Allen this is an excellent show of your faith, and I admire and respect you for openly displaying it. Although you may be alittle weary my friend, you shall never be alone on your journey of jubilation, Poet. Outstanding work. Keep The Faith.

Al, while my beliefs do go on in other directions, my thoughts on this poem are that it is much like a prayer, YOUR own special prayer and I have to say I envy your faith in your special God...a good write, says what you believe, and shows to the world what kind of great person you are...keep on believing, it can help you through out your life...Peace friend poet, Ed & Rufuz

Allen, hit me right where I'm at. Like a psalm, soothing in that the words are spoken - and I could almost hear a melody. Great poem, Dawn
