the universe will conspire to
give you clues and make awareness
known to you

its use and perception and
identification falls upon
the observer

an invitation came to spend
the day with friends

they took me to the tar pits
an ancient site of primal goo
here the earth oozes sticky substance
and the archeological digs
reveal bones of animals from
a million years ago

big sabor tooth cats, wolves, and bears
oversized sloths and long tusked mammoths

a time of carnivores each hunting the other
predators seeking their own survival
yet here they were locked in time
fallen into the pits where their bones were discovered

down the street was the art museum
and king tut’s era was on display
as we waited patiently to enter
I walked upon a mosaic path
in that moment I sensed a flash
I know I’d seen that mosaic
in a dream somewhere in the past

I eyed the artifacts and the intricate detail
amazing the artistry 4000 years old
and even back then politics and religion
would cause a king to ruin

everything laid within that tomb
intentionally designed for the afterlife
weapons and boats, servants, and tools
makes you wonder if they were ever used

the ceremony, the care, and the effort
inlaid, engraved, and gilded
hieroglyphs depicting stories and philosophy
I was wishing I could interpret

strangely enough some of the symbols
were very similar to the rock art
I’d seen in the deserts of America
left by other ancients

Fascinating and very true, Debby - and I for one believe that there is still very much to be learned by modern man about the very intriguing and mystifying links between many of North America's 'Ancient Ones,' including the Anasazi, the Aztecs, the Incas, and the Mayans with those ancient Egyptians.
