A lyrical poem about a woman's ability to let go of the past and living in the memory of a fallen loved one for the sake of brighter tomorrows.

For many years, I stood alone
Amid the setting sun
Content to be here, on my own
When every day was done
But, time has passed; the tides have turned
And now, I long to fly
Far from the bridges that we burned
And, at last, say goodbye.

I know you would wish nothing more
Than happiness for me
Since you led me through opened doors
Once locked in misery
I’ll always hold you in my heart
And in each subtle sigh
But, since we’re evermore apart
I must now say goodbye.

You’ll always have a special place
Embedded in my mind
Because you showed me love and grace
I never thought I’d find
I love you now; I loved you then
I’ll love you ‘til I die
But, ‘til the day we meet again
I have to say goodbye.

Be well, my love, as I move on
And you embrace the clouds
I’ll think of you, each day at dawn
And when darkness enshrouds
You’ve brought me strength; you’ve brought me hope
You’ve brought me wings to fly
And, on my own, I know I’ll cope
As I, now, say goodbye.

For many years, I stood alone
Amid the nighttime air
Content to be here, on my own
And, with you, in each prayer
But, time has passed and moments fade
Despite the reasons why
I won’t regret the fact I stayed
I love you, dear, goodbye.

Wonderful write, Jill! Sometimes, saying goodbye to a wonderful relationship does not mean the end of everything when one has lived, and loved, and was loved in return. There is certainly good times that can be cherished within that special place of the hearts.

I love this poem a lot! It speaks for many!
