As you greet the morning sunshine
On this bright Fourth of July,
May you pause, if for a brief time,
When you see Old Glory fly.
If you look beyond the colors
Waving for the world to see,
You will find a deeper meaning
Here, in our Land of the Free.
The thirteen stripes upon our flag
Stand for the past we’ve known;
The battles waged, the soldiers lost –
Each bar proves we have grown.
Over two hundred years have passed
Since we gained independence;
And found the freedoms that, today,
We share with our descendants.
Fifty white stars, resting in peace
On a background of blue,
Show that our union shall ne’er cease
Thanks to the brave and true .
The soldiers serving, far from home
To provide our defense,
Assuring we’ll be safe to roam
Should challenges commence.
As you greet the morning sunshine
On this bright Fourth of July,
May you pause, if for a brief time
‘fore the fireworks light the sky,
Thinking of the souls whose bravery
Has calmly paved the way
So, we may rejoice our liberty
On our Nation’s birthday.
