Refreshment

I often find that although I have lived in the desert of Utah for over 25 years, my spirit just needs a bit more rain to fell alive and vibrant

Dry desert heat – on and on for weeks

Wild fires thrive and acres turn to ash

Irrigation ditch-water keeps lawns and hay fields alive

But this New-England transplant feels withered and desolate

On the sultry breeze, heavy, humid

Moisture laden atmosphere, looming gray and ominous

Thunder rolls and the warm wind

Sends clouds, pregnant with moisture, directly overhead

A few drops tease - the horses in the field turn away and huddle close

Softly, in the now muggy air, a rain shower begins

My soul is refreshed in the wetness off the downpour

I am cooled and feel alive again

The wet earth smells musky from years of supporting livestock

So much like the farm of my free-spirited childhood

I am alive again and my spirit will flourish

Rain, life giving rain, has replenished and given reminders of freedom and joy

We know the feelings of dry spells here in Tx...and yet of late the rain has poured more than we everr need at times...

It is a releif though when it does pour upon the heated sands of the deserts...

Nice work on this piece...

I too want for rain amidst our current drought. The few drops we get the humidity increases and I am imprisoned inside the house. I would love to see a downpour just as you describe so beautifully right about now. PLB&G for caring and sharing. <mikii>

I lived in Utah (SLC), beautiful country. Much prettier when it rains...I hope for you the life-giving moisture you so desperately need. We're getting it all, here in Texas...I love the imagery you use here in lovely verse; well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You depict the dryness so well and how the rain lifts your spirits above the clouds. Well done poet.

Although I love Utah, having spent quite a bit of time there, I also do love that most refreshing rain you speak of. Sometimes, I actually just stand out in it, and marvel. And there is nothing quite like the sound of rain pitter pattering down in a huge forest.

Ah yes and we certainly do need the rain to quench all our thirst through life. A beautiful write Karen, thank you for sharing.
