A Mighty Leprechaun’s Treasure

O' you thought because my cupid series has ended that I was all dried up....think again my dear friends, think again....

A Mighty Leprechaun’s Treasure

A mighty leprechaun was hoarding and hiding his gold.
He used every bit of strength in burying his heavy load.
It was getting time for this year’s St. Patties Day to come.
So this mighty Leprechaun was gonna be on the run.

After he was sure his precious treasure was now safe.
He headed into town and met a pretty lonely waif.
The first thing she asked him was, “Where is your gold?”
It took him back a little for he thought she was very bold.

But he looked her straight in the eye and told a blarney lie.
I’m just a poor old Irish Leprechaun waiting here to die.
No valued treasures do I have nor gold have I ever seen.
I’m only just like you my waif, only seen in my dreams.

She looked at him intensely but she never said a word.
He truly thought she believed him but that was so absurd.
For she followed him that night and saw his burial ground.
So she went back later that night when he wasn’t around.

She dug up his precious treasure that was buried very deep.
She replaced his gold with rocks for those he could keep.
She gave his gold to the town’s folk, who were very poor.
And it was like the Lepers had found their miracle cure.

Our mighty Leprechaun walked upon this happy scene.
He danced along with them not knowing of the scheme.
Since everyone was rich now, I have no need to fear.
I can dig up my precious treasure and I can bring it here.

So off he went to his treasure, the one buried in the moat.
He dug it up quite quickly and no other word he spoke.
This mighty Leprechaun was scammed by a young waif.
His whole treasure gone now and only rocks in its wake.

and Bonnie good is this St. Patrick's Day tale -- with a twist of Irish humor, Bonnie May -- the waif was the measure of that Leprechaun -- trickery or no! -- delightful -- much love and peace --JonMichael

Wonder if he had a "wake" for his treasure...hee, hee... Kudos to that intelligent waif for outsmarting the leprechaun and sharing with those in need!

Well, the gold went to a good cause, but that waif! I wouldn't want to be husband. Sew up my pockets, so I would!

Bonnie,

Fantastic write. And a little symbolic of our waning economy. First we all have prosperity and don't appreciate it, than suddenly it's taken from us. I loved this.

Always with a moral tailing there in your poems, although, I like more this Leprechaun than a brother with purple hair.

Great write, Bonnie, as only you can do! Very well penned; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :)

St. Patrick's Day is not a happy one for me: it will be nineteen years on that day this year since our mom died; she was only fifty nine. (She would have been sixty in May of that year; far, far too young! How I miss her still!)

This poem is a treasure! An absorbing tale, wonderfully told. I almost believe you were the little waif, and you really met that wily leprechaun.
Even though it's humorous, it calls quickly to mind the Bible admonitions to store up treasures above, not earthly treasures that can be destroyed or stolen.
All around good writing, Bonnie, m'lass!

That'll learn the lyin' leprechaun. LOL Funny, Bonnie, well done! St. Paddy's Day holds sad memories: it was on that day, in 1990, when our 59 year old Mom passed away. :(

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
