a poem about the random nature of depression

AMMONITES.

Today is a seaside day,
seeking fossils on the shore,
stones and laughter skimming
salt waves, ducks and drakes.

Her children laugh, their hands
seeking hers, eager to connect with this
rare woman of light, not knowing how long
it will last before the clouds roll in
and darkness descends on the shore.

She will be lost to them in
shadows and long silences.
Her tears are salt waves, stones
and laughter falter, sink to the seabed.
Ammonites.

Powerfully done, Fabian! Depression can be a crippler of the sunny seashore.
