It happened. It matters. ....

Image (c) 2008, Karla Dorman

Back to work, back to the daily
grind of living:  lucky you.  Some
didn't have that chance, those
that gave their lives so you could
celebrate yours:  it's as it Memorial
Day never happened.

Back to work, back to the daily
grind of living:  lucky you.  Some
don't have that choice, those that
came home injured in body and
in mind, so you could be free - it's
as if Veteran's Day doesn't matter.

It happened.  It matters.  Every
single day, our men and women
stand on the front lines so you
can go back to work, back to the
daily grind while their lives are put
on hold.  How soon we forget ...

(c) 2009, Karla Dorman (5/26)

Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if we had maintained the 1940 & 50's attitude towards our soldiers and veterans...A different society, no doubt...

This is the reason why human history keeps repeating itself! We need to tell our children, so they'll tell their children, and then maybe wars won't happen anymore. Yes, I'm a dreamer. Great job Karla. I wrote a poem called "Shouldn't We Tell The Children" that speaks about keeping the memory of what veterans have done and are doing for us.

How soon we forget ...

I think one of our greatest human flaws; we seem to so easily, forget so much.

A steel helmet and a round of armor-piercing ammo going through the metal grazing the top of my head but killing the Marine besides me. We both went "out of sight & out of mind" for the sponsors of our turn of duty. We both never heard from them none. Not even on any Memorial Day.

Amen, Karla! But then, there are those of us who remind the masses, so they will never completely forget. Write on!

Your repetitions here grab us by the throat, Karla. Very strong writing which is emphatic and punches its message home. Great use of controlled passion. It happened. It matters. This could be a powerful slogan. Bless you, Kate xx

I don't think people have forgotten that quickly. At least not the one's that truly participated in the spirit of Memorial Day. For a lot of people, it is just a paid-day off work. And that is all they care about. For others though it is truly a day of remembrance for lives sacrificed while protecting our country.

I think the most dramatic experience of Memorial Day I've ever witnessed was in Israel. At a certain point during the day, sirens all over the country wail out. Everyone literally stops what they are doing, in place; cars, pedestrians, workers, we all stop what we are doing, step out of our cars, or look out our windows and silently pray in remembrance for the fallen soldiers. Once you've experienced it, you never forget Memorial Day again, or the fallen heroes.

Good reminder in this powerful, needed message to the masses; they just don't care or understand. I agree with what Paul Berube said below; something needs to be done to inject patriotism back into our nation or else we're doomed! God help us all!

I will never forget; I will always remember! Very well penned/imagage; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(

Those who never served don't understand, Karla. I think we should reinstitute the draft. Maybe then we could revive patriotism.
