A Winter's Moon
by Jerry Pat Bolton

Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Rated "G" by the Author.

I stare out my window tonight,

The cold moon gives off a strange light.

It's so mournful I heard it sigh,

Setting up there so very high.

I know that sigh, I know it well,

Within my heart it mutely dwells.

A sigh can be a lovely thing,

Sometimes it makes you want to sing.

There may be yet another one,

Looking at the moon just for fun.

Tonight we are together free,

And that is a good way to be.

Tomorrow's dawn will shine anew,

I wonder how life is with you.

The one who watched the moon with me,

With poet's thoughts we both agree.

Will we be poets come daybreak,

Or has it all been one more fake?

Will we pick up our guns and fire,

Your god and mine are just for hire.

Wow! When you pair this with the moon, lunatic comes to mind when reading the last lines.

You turned a poem on its edge.

Jerry,
There's depth behind these simply expressed verses and an eloquence of thought...and the final two lines are challenging in many ways.

As always, your well spun words open vistas of thought for me. With the time change, even at 5:30 PM, I'm walking Kody in the dark and my mind, along with my eyes has been focused on the full moon the past two nights, especially last night after reading "Winters's Moon."

This is wonderful - I've been having some "deep" thoughts these past mornings with this incredible full moon we have. Somehow it seems even more FULL in the morning than it does at night....anyway, I love the last four lines - just says it all quite well and reflects, no doubt, many peoples' thoughts. Nice!

Beautiful thoughts...leaving the reader with so much to ponder...especially like those last two lines!

Yes, looking up every night, wondering what will come next. Allowing the mind to reach far out into the universe searching, always searching. What a beautifully profound piece...

Be always safe,

isn't it strange, how poets are like meteorites altering the face of the moon with our thoughts, shot though a creative pistol fashioned by the gods ...
i think we'll still be there as long as we don't shoot ourselves ;)

well thought out and cleverly penned, Jerry ...
