Billboards and TV commercials

Bear with me folks while I do some good-natured griping. Would you believe I used to make a living by selling radio advertisement?

Sometimes I feel like a goldfish in a bowl
Though I swim and look at the landscape I have no control
There are billboards some of them promoting and some demoting
Others are tempting and still others that say they are educating
On my windshield I find someone left a flyer
Get all the germs out of your clothes with our new dryer
When I get home I pick up a magazine and turn the page
To see what’s the latest show now presented on stage
What I find is still another unwanted advertisement
All about the latest new car or a germ killing dish detergent
I turn on the boob tube and what do I see?
An ad for the company who supplies satellite TV
Oh somebody save me from these entrepreneurs’ schemes
They would make their millions by manipulating my dreams
Buy this, buy that, come here and save
“Buy peace of mind with our insurance,” they yell and they dance and wave
It is all a part of promoting their many retail transactions
From fast food restaurants to used car promotions
Lord help us!

"In getting and spending we lay waste our powers", is so true, as is your observant poem!

Lord Help Us, Indeed. And since so many of us feel the same, I really wonder who actually listens to, or actually reads, all of these never ending advertisements.

A most apt and timely rant, Lew. That is why I find the PVR very useful; I can just fast forward through the commercials. Love and peace,
