I’ve been off rounding up a few more starving street orphans.
These sad days, it’s hard to decide which dogs have it worse:
The abandoned, emaciated canines dying on America’s streets,
Or those languishing in overcrowded shelters, awaiting execution.
“America’s animal shelters today are prisons,
Breeding anxiety and depression in homeless pets.
These dogs are forced to live in isolation,
Or in very crowded conditions in tiny cages,
Where they smell the scent of death every day.
They are warehoused, until they are euthanized.”
The Shelter Revolution Movement
On a very recent hot and muggy June day
Jeff Bennett flew off in his four seater plane
His mission: to rescue 23 canines on death row
As part of the ‘Pilots N Paws’ rescue community
Bennett has been air-lifting animals, for more than three years
On this trip, he managed to rescue his 1,000th death row inmate
This grateful dog’s name is Rex, a floppy eared mixed breed pup
Who was given a second chance at life, on this hot summer’s day
The ‘Pilots N Paws’ rescue group takes dogs from ‘kill shelters’
And finds them new homes, with people who are willing to adopt
Over Five Million unloved and unwanted dogs, die every year now
Yet people still buy from breeders and puppy mills that just won’t stop
I salute Mr. Bennett and everyone else involved in the ‘Pilots N Paws’ rescue effort
But I get extremely tired of hearing so many people say they don’t know how to help
Start advocating for an end to atrocious puppy mills and for harsher animal abuse laws
And get involved in a local pet rescue group’s efforts to save dogs from death row hell

“Saving one dog
Won’t change this sad old world,
But the world will definitely change,
For the one dog being saved.”
