No Amen to War

thought we should consult an expert...

for you die-hard confederates out there, for whom quoting WTS is akin to quoting the devil: Remember that the man who gutted the confederacy from Atlanta to Savannah and up into N Carolina, offered terms so generous to
his opponent, Gen. Johnson, that his loyalty was questioned and his career nearly wrecked...

Uncle Billy Sherman,
As his soldiers called him,
Knew a thing or two about war.
A grinding, hard war man,
A grim warrior. As cunning,
and canny a soldier as
ever rode to battle.
So when he speaks: Listen.

War is Hell, he said

It is Hell
It is of Hell and
It comes from Hell.
There is no good War,
Never Just or Justified.
Necessary, perhaps
In self defence.
War is always Evil,
Usually, it is the
Greater Evil.

Pray only
to be delivered
From evil...

Amen

Yes, all war is evil in and of itself. But what about the men who have to fight the war. Are the victors good and the losers evil? Does God takes sites. Was the USA right to go in to free kuiwait? Was God on their side and agaisnt Iraq? Or should we have stayed out cause we had no direct threat on our country? What is you answer, and doe it apply today? I know the ones on the left wing will have an answer. Bill

John, Is this poetry or a quote from Shermann? A horse, my pen for a horse! I'd get on it and ride out of this poetless place! The Civil War was a gristmill that ground up two generations and our country to the brink. Except for the Emancipation Proclaimation, little good came from it.

Hi John,
I think wars are judged more by their winning, than the orginal reasons.
The true stature of any man is judged in how he treats the loser--Morchuis

It scares me just to read this.. Yes, war is hell.. and should be avoided.. Before we go to war we should each ask ourselves are we willing to give up our sons/daughters to this cause? Wonderful write..

Excellent. I just read the poem by Lisa Hilbers and told her of an excellent song by Michael Franti where he sings: "You can bomb the world into pieces but you can't bomb it into peace." You can download the MP3 by going to this link:
