My cousin and I came across a portal that opened up the spirit world, and I was forever changed.

June 13, 1995

My cousin and I were staying over at our grandparents' home for the summer while our parents worked.  Having too much time on our hands, and of course being totally bored out of our minds we decided to sneak off to snoop and dig.  Their home was larger than what we lived in, it had four nice bedrooms with large closets, two hallway bathrooms, and three living areas (talk about fun playing hide and go seek).

Our great-grandmother lived in the back room, and she puffed away on her Five Brothers tobacco filled pipe at the ripe age of one hundred years old.  We quietly snuck into the room across from hers, which was once shared by our mothers' way back when they were children.  In the closet we found a yellowing wedding gown that my cousin mother wore, and we both took turns putting it on while modeling in front of the mirror.

As we started to dig through the closet, my cousin spotted an old dirty box with the plastic still sealed never being opened.  We noticed a little piece of Christmas paper attached to what appeared to be some sort of board game.  We both savagely opened the box, and read the word "OUIJA" on the cover, not even knowing if we were saying it right.  Our mothers must have thrown the present in their closet back in the sixties, and just forgot about it.  We said to each other, while laughing hysterically at the thought.

I waited patiently while my cousin figured out the instructions, and then told me what to do with my hands.  She said, "Tonisha, we both put our hands softly on this dial and then ask a question.  The cursor thingy will move all by itself through the Spirit World, and answer us."  I felt fearful for a second, but then I realized that it was only a game and she would probably be moving it to the answers anyway.  We argued for a while, trying to decide what to ask for our first question.  Finally, we decided on saying, "Hello, is anyone there?"  Slowly the cursor moved to yes.  After we questioned each other for a minute to see if either one of us moved it there, we concluded that we didn't therefore the board was magically powerful with Spirits.

All that day we continued to ask questions, and we were told the names of our Husbands, the number of children we were going to have, it also said that we would both be extremely wealthy one day, and on and on.  It told me that I was going to marry a man named Dale, and my cousin would marry someone named Kevin.  She went through four Kevin's before that happened, and my husband name is Delgraco however he always went by Del.  When I looked back at my high school senior book, I saw that the day a met him I wrote in there that I had just met "Dale" not knowing how he spelled his name.  Just about everything good we ever wanted was foretold by this OUIJA board.  After a while I got bored by the game, so I went to sleep.

The next morning my cousin was up playing with the board all by her self and she looked deeply disturbed.  She told me that she had been up all night talking to a little boy named Adam, and he was only six years old.  He had told her that he was killed by a bad man, and he wanted his mommy and daddy to come get him from this cold place.  Her hands were shaking on the board, so I then placed my hands on hers and then the cursor took off moving at speed we could not control all over the board.  As it stopped on a letter, we formed word after word from the messages the spirits on the other side were sending.  Then several other spirits were coming through, and some of them were cussing and saying ugly things.  The little boy she was talking to came back through and said that he was actually seventeen and he had killed himself with a bottle of his mother's pain pills.  They were playing games, and tricking us.

I was ready to throw the game away, and when I told my cousin that she got frightened and said, "They told me to never get rid of this game, or else they would kill me."  She was terrified, so I boxed up the game, wrapped it in newspaper, and plastic before I hid it under the bed without telling her.   We had some horrible nights; I am talking about seeing ghosts, and screaming out in terror from nightmares until our parents finally came to remove us from our grandparents haunted house.

To insure that no one else would have to endure the horror that we suffered through, I took the board home with me secretly planning to throw it in the dumpster behind our apartment complex.  The spirits not only followed me, they somehow knew all about how I was going to discard them into waste management.  That night I placed the board in my closet, and went to sleep.

Not too long after I closed my eyes, I heard strange noises coming from inside of my closet.  I was too afraid to look in that direction and I remember thinking to myself how I should have closed that closet door before I laid down.  I slowly tipped my head out from under my covers, and to my horror I saw what seemed to be hundreds of glowing, green, transparent, alien shaped figures starring back at me.

I could not move my body, and as I lay on my back panic emerged so fiercely that I felt like my heart was going to explode inside of me.  I closed my eyes, and I could hear myself screaming on the top of my lungs even though no sounds came from me.  I kept the lids of my eyes shut as tightly as I could, and I started to pray in my head and hope that I was having a nightmare that soon I would wake up from.  I opened my eyes, and saw them all around my bed.  They were coming nonstop from the closet, filling my room until there was no more room for air.  I blacked out, and remembered nothing else from that night.

When I woke up in the morning the first thought I had was of the OUIJA board, and I quickly took it out of the closet to throw it in the dumpster.  It just so happen to be trash day, and right when I threw it in the Waste Management trucks came to empty the dumpster.  I felt relieved, and then I looked up at the sky.  Everything seemed new, but strangely old at the same time.  I started to notice the sky, and the way it seemed to flow like ripples upwardly to the dome of the Earth.  My eyes now saw straight into the Spirit World, and I saw souls like seeds of semen constantly coming in and out of the Earth.  I even heard them whisper songs to me, and I felt at peace while I gazed without having a desire to ever blink my eyes.

I remembered the green, glowing, alien formed spirits from the night before, but I had no fear of them anymore.  My soul knew them personally, and I saw that they were everywhere being invisible to the human eye without spiritual awareness.  They did something to me that night that changed me forever, and I love them for it.   I walk on in their presence to accomplish the mission set before me, to save the planet Earth from the destruction that the hands of men can bring to us all.  I come in peace to bring you the love placed inside of me happily with glad tidings.
