Deep in Thought... Walking....And she Knew she looked familiar.
A Country Get Away- Little Did She Know...
One day Laura heard her name being called out from within the barn.
She ran to find a tall, stocky, brown curly gentleman shoeing a horse.
"Nehhh," she heard the horse bellow out in pain.
She wondered how he knew her name.
She asked him.
"How do you know my name Sir".
He said "Your friend from on the hill told me".
She gave what he said not a second thought,
Since the countryside knew most of their folks in town.
Her friends were many and spread all around.
He asked her if she would like to go riding.
He reminded Laura of the beautiful sun shining orange rays above them.
The warm air blowing their way.
How they could be exercising the horses on this Beautiful Spring day.
Laura spoke a shrill cry of concern.
"Sir, I don't even know your name-What makes you think I would go riding with you today or anyother day"? She said coyly.
"Oh, I'm sorry - How rude am I".
"My name is Connor and I am visiting a friend nearby."As he extended his strong powerful looking hands her way.
"I was told a sweet girl with brunette hair named Laura, likes to walk the hills nearby".
"So, I took it upon myself to call out your name".
"I hope you didn't mind."
"No" said Laura to Connor in the nick of time.
The horses were galloping around.
A stranger walked by the stalls at the other end.
Neither of them noticed if it was a women or a man.
They were sure to find out in plenty of time.
Connor asked "Did you hear that Laura"?
She said -"Hear what"?
Connor said - "I guess it was nothing I just got spooked for a minute".
"It must have been the clanging of the bell from the wind over theya' ".
Laura told Connor "I've never been on a horse in my life, except when I was five and that was for my birthday party, I did have fun I do remember it well-will you
Help me if the horse gives me a fright"?
"Sure" he said and he smiled warmly.
They both walked over to the horses that were grazing on feed.
Gave them a pat gently on their noses.
Connor helped her gently up on the white gallant horse named
Trevor, her flowing lacey petifore skirt caught the bottom corner of the stirrup.
Connor gently pulled it off and smiled up at her. "Not one rip he said proudly smiling from ear to ear".
Then Connor got up on Young Black spotted Steamer with the thick mane.
As they trounced off over the hills into the woods.
The sky gave way to a thundering boom.
They both looked at eachother in astonishment of the changing weather.
The horses whinnied, yelped and bucked.
Then a lady from in the shadows appeared out of nowhere.
Came scurrying on a shiny blue chrome Harley bike blowing on by.
"She looks familiar Laura said", as the she fell off the horse
Screaming and crying as the blood was flowing through a gash in the back of her head.
Connor called "I'll go get some help" and he rode off toward the house.
Tied his horse in a nearby stall.
Started calling the town doctor - explaining his plight..
The lady on the bike knocked at the door.
"I came to help she said"
I was riding by and I saw that women fall off and hit her head, as I was yelling to help out.
You rode off quickly and I followed you here.
There was no answer on the line, "Come quickly" Connor said" I hope theres still time".
They both hopped on her bike out to Laura.
It seemed to take forever.
Laura was moving her left leg up, and trying to get back on Trevor.
She was still in pain as she noticed the strange women.
She said " You look familiar"
Connor asked her what her name was and she said "Mindy" and to Lauras surprise,
It was her lost sister. "I drove from Kentucky early last night to visit you Laura", she said. I've been living with a family member nobody knows very well, she chided in.
They both helped Laura up on Trevor and Connor rode back with her to the house.
He tied up Trevor and they drove Laura to the hospital in town.
It was a drive that took awhile through unending curves.
There was the Dr.s office. sign in town.
As they headed into the Hospital E.R.at Shininglight Clinic.
The Dr. was called by the secretary in no hesitency, he walked over to them. A strong and confident looking man, he looked as if he had just ate pitted tangy prunes, his eyes squinted tightly and a he had a pointed top lip and chin. "Hi- bring her right here and lets sit you down, Laura I am told. "Yes" Laura said with tear stained eyes.
Dr. Winsford checked on Laura and took her vital signs and asked her many questions.
He told her she will be fine, a few stitches and a bandage right here and you will be fine by morning. He smiled at her as he handed her a form.
Laura said "Thank you" and walked out to the corridor and placed the form on the counter nearby. The secretary asked for her phone # and where she is living and any other pertinent information and said, "we will send you a bill in a few days." "Laura Sweetie- if we have any other questions, I will call you". "Have yourselves a Better day", we heard her say as we walked away.
They walked away talking of the time gone by.
As her sister was smiling at the two of them.

| I like the country doc and the surprise at the identity of the strange girl. When they were galloping off into the distance on the horses, I got a very clear image of this. It is well written and I hope you will continue this at later date. The characters are begging to be given more dialog from your creative mind. Your love of nature shines through here, Shee. |

Beautiful write about how people and events come together in a "supposedly" (super)natural way. [not realizing that man steps are ordered by GOD].
Great Job with the "visual" because the "surprised outcome" was just that--A SURPRISE! <smile> (You know how we menfolk sometimes think...HAY (Hey)!--an opportune moment for a romp {actually "two"} in the--well, you got it! ha!ha!)
All the best;
Roger

Interesting story, Shee; Laura's sister was part of that "unexplainable" of life. I like the guardian angel theory. If I did not have an angel (probably more like several of them) looking after me, I don't know where I'd be. Thank you. Love and peace to you,
Regis |

Talk about a twist of fate! And the whole story revolves around the word 'petifore' for me. I LOVE the OLD WORDS---you don't hear that one very much. But I am a forty-something country girl...Hell Sheila ... I could even be the girl in the photo. Gives new meaning to "a roll in the hay." Don't I wished! Horses, woman, man, biker girl, and sisters are the perfect mix for a great story. Thanks for sharing it with us. There are three main ingredients to writing a great story---getting your character up a tree, throwing rocks at your character to give your character action , and getting your character down from the tree. You did all three!
