"If a man could pass through Paradise in a dream, and have a flower presented to him as a pledge that his soul had really been there, and if he found that flower in his hand when he awake - Aye, what then?"
Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

During the two years that I have been facilitating dream groups, I have observed several phenomena that have sparked my curiosity. One revolves around the times when the group members share the same symbol in their dreams on the same night.

Secondly, there are instances when those group dream symbols connect to a waking life event within a short time after the dream. Here there are two categories I want to mention. The first is that some dream symbols seem to foreshadow an event that occurs in the future and others seem to amplify the dream symbol for further inquiry.

The collective dream symbols are common or archetypal, but the intriguing point to me is why we as a group dream similar dreams at the same time and why do or how does that specific symbol find its way to get our attention in waking life? What is the explanation of for this happening?

Thirdly, while these dream symbols are not unique, really very common and are possibly archetypal, the fact that so many in one group collectively dream them within the same period of time and the fact that the symbols manifest themselves in waking life is unique—the mystery for me. While the collective symbols have their own special meaning for the individual dreamer, it is curious to me how these symbols could have a message for the group as a whole found in there collective or mutual symbolism.

My questions about this mystery led me to search for the answers.

Everything and everyone in our life as well as in our dreams is trying to convey something. We are blessed from the billboards we see, to the formations we observe in the clouds, to the understanding of simple things and to the gifts we accept. As a photographer, all that I observe through the lens of the camera is a gift from the Divine. Dreams are special blessings as they are a gift from the Divine specifically made for us. The material comes from the unconscious moving into images for us to decode. It is when an image from the dream world takes on form in waking life, which reinforces the importance of searching to know the symbolism of the symbol.

The title of the book about symbols found in my dream groups is "Dream Symbols In Waking Life" Can be ordered from the website located at blurb.com/books/783979.

This is a book about synchronicity between dream images and waking life. I use photography and art to portray the dream images and to evoke emotions. Because nakedness is a common dream image, I do have p photograph of a fine art painting of a nude woman. The book is a combination of educational material about synchronicity, dream examples and visual effects. It is a book worth having even if it sits on your coffee table because of the beautiful pictures.
