A personal story.
I would like to end with a personal example of synchronistic meaning between the dream and waking life.
The dream: A lady named Diana and I are talking about how I seem to be stuck in a repeating pattern. I tell her I feel shamefully inadequate resulting from the physical and educational handicaps I live with. I had built walls to protect my emotions. I wanted healing and I had sought many avenues for healing. I kept going to the same places to find my answers. In the dream, she tells me to turn around and look in the opposite direction. When I do, the dream image becomes black and then 4 strands of living gold begin to grow from the depths of the black. As they move upward, they spiral around each other. They seem to be alive, radiating in their gold color. They formed in a design that looked like a cord, a cable, DNA chain, something I have no words to
adequately describe. I say to myself, "Oh, the parts of myself that I thought were weaknesses are actually the very parts that knit me together and provided strength. Because it is part of my formation, down to the DNA level, the disabilities I have had from birth have given me the strength to pass through all the hurdles in my life. The opposite of what I had believed is true ."
I woke surprised by the wisdom of the dream.
A few months later, I saw a silver bracelet on which was engraved, "A cord of 3 strands is not quickly broken," Ecclesiastes 4:12. I immediately thought of my dream about the golden cords. I remembered the strength of my weaknesses and my strength in knowing how strong I am in my weaknesses. I told my husband about the bracelets and he, as a surprise, gave it to me. Enclosed in the gift box was a card that read: Exodus 4:12, "Now go. I will help you speak and will teach you what to say". This seemed odd to me, as the engraving was different. The curious piece to this puzzle is that I had always suffered from performance anxiety. This fear had enough power over my choices that I avoided public speaking opportunities.
The gift of this meaningful coincidence opened my mind and heart to the possibilities that I will be taught how to speak. I felt empowered. Within a month, I had volunteered to read the scripture in our Sunday worship service. A continuing blessing moved from the dream to waking life and even into the emotional level of my deepest places. The purpose of the dream was to provide health and wholeness. And that it did. It took my old stuck and worn out way of thinking about a certain belief and turned it up side down. Life is full of opposites and this was the first of a new life style of many for me. Everything in our lives has an opposite to be discovered. If we know that we have the capacity of these opposites, we will not be surprised when they appear.
Synchronicity is outside of time and space and cannot be defined by any scientific method. Coincidences happen all the time. Most go unnoticed because we are not looking for them and because we have not developed the "eyes to see." Our inner eye sees only our projection of ourselves. Once the inner eye is clear, we see an abundance of meaningful coincidences.
It is in those events that spark a "truth" connection and which takes us further along our journey of becoming the creation that we were originally intended to be. The new "truth" is what takes just a co-incidence and transforms it into synchronicity.
There is mystery in the life of the dream. It is a gift to us from the Kingdom within and when we risk going deep down into the subconscious to understand the dream's meaning, we are blessed beyond our imagination.
Sweet dreams.
