4 Short Tales of Legend/Mythology As I see It
1. The Birth of Pegasus
The man is in the forest, his stomach growls so he climbs a tree and eats of the fruit. A noise comes from in front of him. He gazes past the leaves spying a panther moving through the forest foliage into the open. The panther is low to the ground, moving fast. The man and the panther lock eyes, at that moment a hiss erupts in the man's ear. He turns to find a snake in striking posture. The man cannot decide which animal will strike first. The snake strikes, the man catching it before fangs taste flesh, flings the serpent at the panther, which has pounced at the man. Snake and panther fall entangled to the ground. Ethereal light bathes the writhing pair. The metamorphosis from the two creates a startlingly white winged steed.
The man leaps from the fruit laden treee toward the magical beast, which kneels for the mount. The steed vaults into the sky with astounding agility, his massive wings beat the air to create lift. And such is the first flight of Pegasus and Adam in the Garden of Eden.
2. Sky God's Betrothal to Athena
Sky God asks Zeus for Athena's hand in marriage. Zeus asks Sky God for the stormy section of the sky where rain clouds, thunder and lightening abound. They shake hands. Zeus gives Sky God a new knife forged in Athens from lightening strikes and a hammer from Thor who couldn't be there. Sky God farts his ascents and Zeus pees his name on a cloud. Coyote can be heard laughing in the distance.
3. The Story of the American Guff
Pocahontas and Aanansii in woman/spider form are Sky God's wives. They are presently in a space ship traveling the cosmos.
Babies appear in the ship and Aanansii swaddles them with silk then Pocahontas takes the swaddled babe and hangs it on a post on the side of the ship, native style. The babies are quiet. As they are traveling a hole appears on the side of the space ship and Aanansii's butt becomes trapped in the hole. All the while Aanansii has been spinning so that her web is cast out to the heavens. A baby appears and starts to cry, Pocahontas picks up the babe and rocks the it, but too many babies appear and not enough are being born that Pocahontas is overwrought when they all start to cry. So Pocahontas puts the ship on a path for Earth and they soon reach New River Air Station in Jacksonville, North Carolina. With the atmospheric pressure normalized Aanansii's butt pops out of the hole and she quickly starts swaddling babies, but must hang them up native fashion herself for Pocahontas has had enough and jumped out of the hole to the ground. In Pocahontas's arms she carries a baby whom she will deliver herself, a special gift to one of the descendants of John Smith.
4. Skyflower, The First Tale
So where will yo go today Skyflower? To the long house to pray. For what? The life of my new one. Hmmm. And he presses his lips together in thought, his eyes are faded blue, his skin like roughened leather. Skyflower lowers her eyes. There is no time for the long house, perhaps you need time to yourself, he say and he leave. Skyflower thinks... no time... then blue light comes from her eyes. Skyflower blossoms.
And where will you go little one? To the ends of the Earth, to the sea, and I shall harness the power of the Sun and the Mooon. Nothing is said for a time.. Skyflower raises from bed. The child of light sits with his eyes entranced watching spider dance. He does not clap his hands to command Aanansii, for she is grandmother not spinning. They reside for a time in the ensuing quiet.
Time has passed, the embers spark when blown upon. Grandfather what is the sky? The grandfather ponders... The child waits not really expecting an answer. His lids grow heavy. There is a sound. Very slowly he rotates his eyes but does not see. Something waits... The child knows to still his tongue. Sleep is gone, guard is on, but he is so very young he understands ,not, fear but only anticipation. They wait. Morning dawns.
Skyflower takes the child of light to the long house. Aanansii is perched on the child's head where she has spun. I seek entrance. Entrez Vous. There is a fire. Skyflower and the child sit absorbing the warmth. Aanansii threads her way down. jumping off the child's hand. She lands close to the fire taking out her pipe for a smoke. Her two front legs are raised in a threatening manner. No one moves. The child smiles at his gradmother while Skyflower smothers the fire with her birthing blanket which she raises and lowers producing puffs of smoke, until the blanket sets ablaze. a figure of a maiden hovers above the flame, she is of normal height and depth but seemingly wispy. The wisp maiden and Skyflower lock eyes. Skyflower rises to her full height signaling the child danger with a gesture. The wisp woman does not waver. It is a female struggle, for the wisp woman of fire wishes to embrace the child of light. This is the mother severing ritual. While his mother and grandmother are busy, the child of light mixes the embers with a twig sending tendrils of smoke up the nose and into the eyes of wisp woman, for he knows the Sea Witch when he sights her. He has no fear. He has belief, since Aanansii has put her pipe into her poncho and climbed back up her spinner to perch once again on his head. It is at this time that wisp woman notices Aanansii. The wisp woman dissipates without breaking eye contact with Skyflower who remains standing once again entranced by the flames.
They come out to the light making the journey home, the child of light legs are tired, so he piggybacks. He sleeps comforted in the strength of his bloodline women. The journey passes without incident till the man of leather and blue is seen, he has been worried but lifts the corners of his lips in greeting.
