Though some rhymes, I thought this more a short story. Music by Mason Williams.
The Puppet.mp3
Dancing about, at the pull of a string,
I'm a loving song 'n dance wooden puppet, yes,
who would give his wooden heart,
for a heart of warmth and the voice to sing.
Oh, you can teach puppets the ropes, you see,
to move, to dance, to carry on,
but you'll never, no you'll never ever hear their love song,
or feel the warmth hidden within…no, no.
Oh, move my hands, I'll make you smile,
oh, pull a string I'll kick, I'll kick and walk a mile.
Bend me, shape me, aw, any which way,
oh, and then grin and smile at the antics you make me do,
ah, but open my mouth, oh and nothing comes out,
oh, what a shame with so, so much to say.
For I've heard the daily schemes 'n dreams
of the children both young 'n old…
oh and they so, so much want their stories to be told.
They do ya know, they really, really do, ya know.
Oh, Mr. Woodmaker, give me a voice today,
and I promise, oh I promise, never to curse,
or swear in any way.
I do promise, I do.
Aw, Mr. Stringman, attach a cord to a vocal chord,
Oh Lord, I want to pray.
Mr. Puppeteer, you made me what I am,
aw, Mr. Puppeteer, do a little bit more,
I know you can.
Oh Great Puller of the Strings,
bend me once again, once again shape me.
But please, oh please, maybe one day,
just, just let me sing.
Or if this is too big a start...
aw, how 'bout just a little heart?
And I'll dance,
and I'll sing,
and I'll love,
just,
everything...

I cant help but wonder if this little puppet was given the things he asked, in time, would he hold true to these promises
And if so, I would change my occupation to wood working lol ... good reads, thanks I needed that
Excellent narration btw, after listening I had to check my heart to make sure it wasn't wooden! lol
