You wouldn't wait until you crashed your car and had parts and glass everywhere before you put on a seat belt or got insurance. Why wait until drama unfolds to put your cards on the table.

It was the middle of March, somewhere around the 18th. Keesha was off to her 3 day business trip.Carl stayed home with the kids. He took the first day off because his daughter was getting an award from her acting class. He really wished that his wife Keesha could be there. Carl understood that she was a public official and travel was part of the job. After all Carl is an singer and it is a part of his too. Carl's stomach turned as he thought about how he found out about Keesha having an affair just a few months earlier. She assured him it was nothing and that it happened out of loneliness while he was on the road promoting his debut album. He had doubts about her loyalty and honesty again. However it wasn't because of her past it was because of her present acts. She had been acting different lately but he just couldn't put his finger on it. He didn't want to accuse her because when he told her he forgave her ; he really did. Besides she was respected in the community by everyone and everything she did she claimed to do it for her family. Maybe thats why she was such a great  political representative. He didn't want to tarnish her image in any way with a ugly divorce from the R&B performer.

Carl was having such a great time with his children that he didn't even realize Keesha didn't say what hotel she was staying in. Come to think about it she didn't even say what city she was going to. She kept saying Ohio or Oklahoma or something I have to check my schedule. She hurried out of the door barely saying goodbye.Carl had more than her past as a reason to doubt her. He'd seen text messages in her phone, some of which read "you wouldn't have gotten caught before if it was me, I know how to keep a secret."Carl wrote the number down but never called it because it was more than what his heart could take. Then around Christmas time he found receipts for cologne, men's clothing and gift cards to stores where men shoppped. He even found jewelry and hotel receipts. He never asked her. Wishful thinking that is was for co workers, I suppose. Anyway buy the second day of no calls from Keesha, Carl's suspisions got the best of him. Carl took out a bank statement and noticed that flowers were ordered once and a few Edible Arrangements of fruit. Odd gifts to send to a man. He told himself that they were probably for a girlfriend. Either way he called stores and asked to duplicate receipts  claiming to need them for his expense report. The person in the store would not comply for privacy reasons. They said that they needed to speak to Keesha directly. He got his sister to call back pretending to be Keesha. He got all of the information about the deliveries. They were all to a Dave somebody at some firm in center city. He checked his comcast bill. There was a number all over it, the number that the text came from. They would talk for hours at work. He wanted to believe it was business but the calls were during voting season and after. This was no campain venture. He noticed that the calls were only when he was not home. He wondered why she guarded her AT&T phone bill like it was a national treasure. Little did she know that he had a friend who worked for the company. He got the statements that he needed. He found that she talked to Dave as well as her ex  boyfriend all day. Everyday. If nothing was going on why was it such a secret. Carl called Keesha who initially denied talking to either one of them. She went as far as to deny she even remembered who Dave was claiming nor his work number or cell phone number sounded familiar. Carl didn't bother to call her ex because they already knew each other, that was a waste of time. The ex had always claimed that they never really broke up and that she always ran back to him everytime there was an argument. Carl called Dave not to argue but to talk to him man to man. Who wouldn't want to know what was going on? Carl left two messages. One of which was so long that the answering machine actually cut off. He  never called back. Who wouldn't respond to clear their name? Keesha probably was claiming that she would clean up the mess and that Dave's wife would never find out. When Keesha came home she was crying the blues apologizing, claiming that there was no sex with neither of the guys; only conversation and hanging out. So many lies, after all she had claimed just the day before not to know Dave at all . Only admitting to the one sexual affair that she could not deny. Finally after showing Keesha the evidence, she admitted the affair.  Carl was so heartbroken that he decided to separate from Keesha. He was better about it than most would have been. He still made public appearances with her and everything. All she cared about was image. She appeared to be a hardworker, family oriented, and just generally a good person. That is her representative side. (The side people choose to show you, it can take years before you really know who a person is.) Carl wrote a song for his album that someone in the media speculated was about Dave and Keesha. Dave was married also. His wife Nicole heard the song.  Suddenly everyone was making their own speculations but nobody ever talked to Carl about it. He was just expressing himself and he didn't intend for that to happen. Funny thing is Keesha heard and knew about the song before it was ever released. She was so selfish that she didn't mind and even said it was good until it interrupted her wonderful public image. Hell Carl wouldn't have been surprised at all if Keesha and Dave got together and came up with a great alibi for Nicole. Lets call it damage control. They probably told Nicole that Carl tripped everytime she was around another man. Maybe they tried to play it like he was insecure because of the past affair. Who knows, who really cares? Funny how Dave never called Carl to save Keesha's marriage but Keesha called Nicole to keep Dave's safe and sound. Funny how Carl never did or said anything publically about the affair that was out in the open, why would he now about this one. That would be crazy. Just like that Eminem and Mariah Carey thing, he could have written a song called the Warning or even published the proof but he didn't primarily because he was heartbroken not hateful. He had nothing to prove and nothing to lose but silence is golden and he didn't call Nicole. He gave it to God and prayed that Dave would change since his wife loved him so much. There was no need to harbor bad feelings towards any of them because nothing could change the fact that his heart was already broken and the damage is done.
