Everyone needs help sometime.

Pay the Beggar
Taken from the book, "The Voices Within Us." by Jim Stewart

August 2002

One day while driving home from work, I approached a busy intersection. While waiting for the light to turn green, I saw a man with a sign the read, "Everybody Needs Help Sometime." He was a medium built man, with brown hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a blue flannel shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. I had never in all my born days given to these beggars on the street. I, like so many other people, believed these beggars, for the most part, were scammers and lazy. But, this time, I was compelled to give this man the money I had in my pocket, five one dollar bills. I was going to use this money to buy some supper, but the voices kept telling me to give my money to the beggar. So, I did. After I gave him my money, he looked at me and said, "God Bless You."I thought nothing more about it.

The next morning, while walking my dog, Bubba, I looked down on the sidewalk in front of my house. What did I find? Five one dollar bills, just like I had given to the beggar the day before.

I have not scene this beggar again.

I believe we reap what we sow as well Jim. When someone reaches out their hand for change, if it's in my pocket, it's theirs. Very nice story. I love the humanity in your writing.

We never know when we may be on the other end of needing help. Your story to follow our hearts was poignant and to have the confirmation that your helping a total stranger truly in need 'paid off' not only literally, but in your soul and that is what really counts.
Many thanks

I have seen this before, Mr. Stewart. It is called: "Reaping what you sow". The world is a better place ... because of people like you.
