The very first books I read in English were the Curious George series. I was ten years old when I moved to New York. I left behind seven years of verbal abuse and I was very eager to go live with my mother who left me with my father at the age of three.
Unable to read English, the picture of the monkey caught my attention. I picked up the book and fell in love with the pictures, even though I had no clue what the words meant. Six months later I could read English. My fascinations with picture books continued and I read over and over again all of the Curious George series. It was at that time I dreamt of someday writing my own book.
My experiences in Haiti were not very pleasant. The only form of escape for me were daily adventures on the beach collecting sea shells. One day, an amazing thing happened, I came across a huge sea turtle. That experience stayed with me, I never forgot what happened that day. In fact ,what happened that day is the most memorable moment of my childhood days in my native country of Haiti. I did not like what my father did to the sea turtle, nevertheless in my book the story is written with a different twist. The way the story is written is how as a little girl I envisioned my father should have handled the sea turtle.
Today, I am savoring the joy of publishing my first book. It was very important for me to reach many children across the globe, that is why I chose to write the book in French/Spanish and English . I have many more books in the works, but for now I am truly blessed to be able to share this joy and accomplishment with my fellow Authorsden readers and writers.
I encourage all of you, never ,ever give up on your dreams.
