It is a known fact that all children should be read to at least once a day. Reading can be a lot of fun. What I have learned after raising three children are the tips I am going to share with you.
1. Make it a weekly habit to take your child to the library at least once a week. When my kids were younger, I allowed them to ckeck out five books of their choosing. They always chose books with colorful illustrations. When we got home I covered the script and asked them to tell me what they think the picture represents. Oh! how eager they were in their quest to figure out what was going to happen. This activity helps with peeking their interest and also make children want to read. children are very inquisitive and when you challenge them they will respond.
2. After reading to your child, ask them questions about what was read to them, you will be amazed at what they can retain. That is the reason why it is best to introduce a foreign language at a young age to kids. Their brain are like sponges. This activity helps a child learn to pay attention to details , thus it enables them with developing good retention skills.
3. Make time to read a book in front of your child. While my children sat in one corner perusing a book I sat across from them reading a novel or a magazine. The more children read, the better readers they will become.
4. Never allow your child to remain idle during the summer months. Join the summer reading program . I always participated in the summer reading program. In my area, the kids were given many prizes for reading a certain number of books. My youngest will be 14 in a couple of weeks, I have him reading books that pertains to being a boy.
5. Last , but not least encourage your children to read books that are of interest to them. My son loves and plays sport, so he reads a lot on sports.
