In order to become our authentic selves we must first examine where our emotions and motivations stem from. Critical attitude of ourselves comes from one or both parents. This subject is of great importance to me because I have defied all statistics by examining carefully my emotions. This was not an easy task to accomplish by any stretch. It is so easy to let negative chatter inside our heads take control. What we were exposed to during our childhood days can hugely affect you either negatively or positively. For example if you have been chastised about how in adequate you are, or how stupid, or how ugly you are after hearing that you start to believe that about yourself. The question remains: How do you deal with such negative emotions or verbal abuse? Perhaps the best way to deal with this is to first identify the negative and replace it with a positive alternative that will allow you to lead a proactive rather than a reactive life.
In my situation, I applied myself in school and did very well. Everytime the negative chatter inside my head tried to take over, I would replace it with a positive. For example as a kid I was called ugly a lot, when that thought of being called ugly entered my mind, I said to myself I may be ugly, but at least I am very smart because I get good grades in school. I challenged myself in many ways to prove what was said about me was dead wrong.
I strongly believe that there is power in thinking positively, and who you surround yourself with can either make or break you. I avoid people that bring negative energy. Life is too short to allow other people's venom to distract you from living life to the fullest. The goal is to shed off the shackles of negativies and replace it with the amor of positivities. All of this journey to living our authentic selves begins in our head to our heart. It is up to us to determine with path we will take, the path to freedom, and finding oneself or the path of indulging in self pity and destruction.
Becoming our true selves allows an individual to accomplish things they might otherwise might not have been able to . Since I was ten years old I knew I wanted to publish a children's book, I finally was able to make that dream a reality March of 2009 by publishing "Marie and her friend the Sea Turtle" I hope and pray, that everyone who read this article will be inspired to find their true selves. God Bless.
