Every year hundreds of poor Haitians in search of a better life die in attempts to come to the United states.People smuggling is a well-established, word-of-mouth industry in impoverished Haiti. Brokers recruit desperate Haitians from poor neighborhoods and marketplaces throughout the country, offering spots for about $500 per person.

It is truly a sad day to have learned about the boat that capsized carrying an astronomical amount of Haitians. Can you imagine two hundred people squizzed on a sailboat? Well, for the many poor Haitians that get hoowinked into paying $500.00 per head in the hopes of making it safely to the United States, it is their last hope to escape poverty. The $500.00 per person is mostly likely their life savings. How cruel it is for these greedy brokers to lure these poor people just so they can make a profit.
Haiti is the first independent Black Republic in the world, the first nation to liberate itself from slavery and seek democratic refuge. Despite this fact, Haiti has been plagued with more hurdles than is humanely possible. It is my native homeland, and my heart is torn in two whenever I hear of such horrors. Horrors that are beyond my control. The only thing I can do is to support the Lambi Fund of Haiti, an organization that is cultivating a true Haitian democracy from the grassroots, sprouting hope into society. Mrs. Karen Ashmore is a personal friend of mine, she is also the executive director in the United States of the Lambi Fund. She also resides not too far from me in Denver. so far over a million Haitian peasants have benefited from the nurturing actions of the Lambi Fund. I was just about to post my new short story based on true events titled "NO MORE HUNGER". I am in the process of getting my short stories, book of poetry published, part of the proceeds from the sales of these books will be donated to the Lambi Fund of Haiti. I am also donating a portion of my proceeds from Marie and her Friend the sea Turtle too. Feel free to check out their website at : www.lambifund.org

I this planet were a "world community" as it truly ought to be, such horrors would not be; and the world would know peace at last. Merci, mon amie. Love and peace to you,
