The essential role of requited love
In “Ninny’s home, the confrontation”
By Antoine Archange Raphael
In “Ninny’s home, the confrontation”, love, once more, makes possible two hearts in close harmony to seek and aim at a common vision.
Indeed, true love, in this story, doesn’t lead the lovers to behavioral and moral disorders, to lack of balance or personality disturbance. It rather expresses two peoples feeling towards each other and manifests itself in somewhat with serenity.
Based on this cursory description, Ninny and Allen would like to spend an eternity, looking at each other, stroking each other, engaging in all kind of foolishness, if the daily imperatives of life didn’t rise up against their wishes. Ninny must work hard at her store-restaurant to satisfy a demanding clientele; while Allen must study assiduously to pass the state university final exams and acquire his diploma, his ultimate hope for bettering his life under the Caribbean sun.
However, guided by love, Allen and Ninny offer to help each other overcoming obstacles standing in their way.
They have to deal with a jealous suitor having powerful political influences and expressing his desire to destroy everything and everybody thwarting him in his endeavor to win Ninny’s heart.
The woman must also have a hold on her superstitious beliefs which sometime tend to lead her by the nose to such a par that she comes close to hostility toward her lover, the heir to scientific culture.
Finally, they have to overcome their huge economical difference.
Yet, Ninny and Allen, because of the strength of their love, transcend these obstacles, become conscious of these negative elements and strengthen their love through intimate encounters, intellectual dialogues, revelation of their respective personalities, self-sacrifices.
Throughout history, requited love appears like an unfolding mystery. Actually, love in general betrays a mysterious complexion, at the very beginning; for, we are talking about two perfect strangers who pick each other as lovers. How can a man come to take a woman as his lover and vice versa, among hundred or thousand of persons who could fit the love profile; despite the presence of obvious factors, as I have touched on, in the previous paragraph, which often presuppose obstacles and defy judgment? This initial aspect of love commitment still baffles many. The lovers simply take their chance and sometimes risk their career and their existence.
In “Big Ninny’s home, the confrontation”, love rather comes in the form of a dialectic activity the absolute threshold of which starts simultaneously with the lovers’ physical and intellectual attraction toward each other.
This dialectical love, actually, begins with Allen’s simple curiosity about an enigmatic woman. He thinks that there is chance that the reality of such goddess would turn out to be richer, more in tune with the beholder’s vision. Then, this curiosity would change into fascination and commitment.
This dialectic love also starts with Ninny’s desire to get closer to the man and, for no clear motive, to wish him the best. Without any warning, the desire throws the concerned woman body and soul in a spiral of love.
I recommend the reading of this story which will certainly please the lover of literature.
